Isis congratulates winners

Year 9 pupils at Lampton School in Hounslow wowed judges of the ‘I Dream of Learning’ competition with their inspired design for a classroom of the future.  Isis was so impressed they decided to help them on their way to realising their design with some free giant beanbags which they took straight back to school on the tube!

Isis MD Nick Topliss said, “We should employ more young people to design learning spaces!  They naturally prioritise comfort – and why shouldn’t classrooms be comfortable?  They also want the flexibility to use different learning styles when it suits them along with integrated technology to support their learning.  It’s just brilliant, so we thought why not recognise their success and give some huge and very comfortable beanbags to start them off.  This may be a ‘futuristic’ classroom but their design is absolutely do-able today.”

The budding designers drew inspiration from schools across the world to create an environmentally friendly design focused on how people like to learn.  A survey among fellow pupils revealed that comfort was one of the main reasons they liked working at home and 70% said they would bring sofas into school.  Flexible furniture that enabled independent working or group collaboration was a key part of the design, as was the ability to draw on integrated ICT and technology resources to make learning fun and engaging – exactly what Isis furniture is all about.  They even specified an Isis P6 collaborative IT table as one of their dream choices!  You can see their presentation here

Run by Feltham City Learning Centre and supported by Hounslow CLC and Brentford elearning with capital funding from the DCSF via BECTA, the competition netted the winning Lampton School £30,000 with which to make their vision a reality.  Watch this space for updates!
