Winner of the competition run jointly by the Design Council and the DfES, Orbital, designed by award winning husband-and-wife team Azumi in conjunction with keen is a revolution in classroom furniture design.
Orbital workstations provide a dynamic solution to what has become increasingly institutional – the traditional classroom table and chair. Linking them together whilst allowing the seat to orbit around the circular table, creates opportunities all of which can be effected by students themselves with minimal disruption. For example, a lesson which starts with students arranged in straight lines can easily change into one supporting collaborative groups – Orbital’s circular worksurface does not dictate specific group sizes, so it’s equally appropriate for groups of 2 right up to whole classes. Locking casters meanwhile, mean that Orbital remains static when pressure is applied, (the student’s weight – by sitting down) so you can rest assured they won’t be used as go-carts during breaks!
